TAIPEI (The China Post) – Priest Antoine Henri Marie Pierrot (畢耀遠), who dedicated most of his life to Taiwan and passed away earlier this month, received a posthumous presidential citation on March 18 from Vice President Chen Chien-jen (陳建仁) during his funeral service.

Coming from the Netherlands, Pierrot strove to provide sounder medical care to residents in Huwei Township, Yunlin County, for decades. He established the Joseph Social Welfare Foundation to help patients who are poor, disabled, or have premature babies.

He received an Alien Permanent Resident Lifelong Contribution Award from the Ministry of the Interior in 2011 and Order of Brilliant Star with Violet Grand Cordon from former President Ma Ying-jeou (馬英九) in 2015.

He also received the charity award from Wu Zun-xian Cultural and Educational Foundation (吳尊賢文教基金會) in 2017 and several country and social awards such as the honorary citizenship certificate in 2018.

Father Pierrot is buried in the Holy Mountain Catholic cemetery in Min Hsiung, Chiayi County, fulfilling his wish to be a Taiwanese forever.
