TAIPEI (The China Post) – Kaohsiung Mayor Han Kuo-yu (韓國瑜) joined a closed-door seminar at the invitation of Harvard University’s Fairbank Center for Chinese Studies on April 12. In response to media inquiries, Han said that the U.S. values Taiwan’s future prospects greatly, but it was beyond his duties and capabilities to reply to some of the questions raised by U.S. scholars during the seminar.
Following his speech, which lasted around twenty minutes, the mayor interacted with the audience and answered scholar’s questions. During his presentation, Han put his emphasis on the future development of Kaohsiung and what he thought politicians can do for Taiwanese people.
Asked about his take on cross-strait relations and his opinion on military spending, pension reform, and the balance of national budget, Han said, “I don’t know if the U.S. sees me as a potential candidate, but clearly this is not something a city mayor can say. I tried my best to express my observations and I hope that I’ve answered their questions.”
