TAIPEI (The China Post) – Several Chinese warplanes transited on April 15 in the Bashi Channel — a waterway between Y’Ami Island of the Philippines and Orchid Island of Taiwan, conducting long-distance flight training towards the west Pacific, the Ministry of National Defense (MND) confirmed in a statement.
In response, the Ministry of National Defense (MND) said that China’s attempt of changing the status quo across the Taiwan Strait both through military operations and public opinion is heavily interfering with regional stability and security.
However, the MND stressed that the armed forces applied joint surveillance and dispatched aircraft and warships to prevent foreign forces from entering the airspace and territorial sea.
After two Chinese Shenyang J-11 fighter jets crossed the median line of the Taiwan Strait on March 31 for the first time since 1999, President Tsai Ing-wen ordered the MND to expel any Chinese aircraft if future intrusion occurs.
In response, Minister of National Defense Yen Teh-fa (嚴德發) said that the national army had adjusted the emergency rules on the code of conduct confining airspace defense and territorial sea safety.
