TAIPEI (The China Post) – Taiwan Ministry of National Defense (MND) declined to comment on April 16 on Foxconn Chairman Terry Gou’s (郭台銘) remarks regarding U.S. arms sales to Taiwan. Gou said Taiwan shouldn’t spend money on buying weapons from the U.S. but invest in developing new technologies while attending the 40th anniversary of the Taiwan Relations Act seminar organized by ICRT.

The U.S. government announced on April 15 US$5 billion in arms sales, aimed at providing training to Taiwan pilots and improving logistics support at the Luke Air Force Base.

U.S. arms sales to Taiwan would help reinforce peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait and the entire Asia-Pacific region, the MND said.

The air force has long been conducting high-level F-16 tactical and strategic training in the U.S. The MND also said that the air force will keep on receiving training in the U.S. and strive to maximize its combat capabilities and effectiveness.
