TAIPEI (The China Post) – The 2020 presidential election is just around the corner and cross-strait relations have become increasingly tenser. An example of this is a miniature model at the Hobby Expo China, an international model exhibition, featuring a group of tanks driving through the streets of Taipei that triggered heated discussions online.
The miniature model allegedly highlights the self-centered Chinese mindset of unifying with Taiwan by force. It successfully includes Taiwan’s renowned food highlights such as Yongkang Beef Noodles and famous pork-chop restaurant Shilin Shiquan Paigu, as well as President Tsai Ing-wen’s campaign board for the 2020 Presidential Election.
But there is a mismatch. Some netizens pointed out that the road signs are actually written in simplified Chinese, which kind of ruins the designer’s original statement.
Other netizens also commented: “There are no motorcycles at all? So fake!” or “Well, the judges will be highly satisfied.” Some said, “I respect your freedom to dream” and “Taiwan should also make one mocking the 1989 Tiananmen Square protests.”
