TAIPEI (The China Post) – According to former KMT legislator Sun Ta Chien (孫大千), members of the opposition Kuomintang (KMT) have reached to Tseng Wen-pei (曾文培), a member of the KMT’s Central Standing Committee, expressing hopes that Kaohsiung Mayor Han Kuo-yu (韓國瑜) could still be included in the presidential primary despite his recent decision under the current system.
Han made a five-point statement earlier that day, showing gratitude for those who have supported him but suggesting that he couldn’t run in the primary under the existing system. Still, he stressed that he is willing to take the responsibility of protecting the Republic of China, creating a stir while hinting that the KMT should recruit him directly.
For Han, it is awkward to join the current primary system if he has to go through the primary and eventually disappoint the people of Kaohsiung. That’s why KMT proposed to Central Standing Committee to include Han in the election without having him to express his intention known,” Sun said.
“In so doing, as long as the party reviews the system, Han would not have to be included in the primary through recruitment. Since we have methods, we are not worried about the primary,” Sun further added.
