TAIPEI (The China Post) – The Central Standing Committee of the opposition Kuomintang (KMT) adopted a proposal on April 24 to draft both Kaohsiung Mayor Han Kuo-yu (韓國瑜) and Hon Hai Chairman Terry Gou (郭台銘) in the primary.
The decision could solve the problem of the Kaohsiung Mayor for now. As for whether the party will select his candidate based on a national poll, the Central Standing Committee said it will discuss with all potential candidates first before making the decision.
After consulting with the committee members, KMT Chairman Wu Den-yih (吳敦義) also gave the following two instructions.
First, the KMT’s prime focus is to win the election and find back the pride and honor the Republic of China once had. In response to the Tsai administration alleged failed leadership, the party’s responsibilities is to elect the best candidate and strive for peace and economic prosperity in Taiwan, he said.
Second, the KMT will find out the solutions for each candidate and include every one of them in the primary system.
As for the election’s schedule, Wu Den-yih said that since the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) will select his candidate in June, KMT will propose the best candidate in May. After the vice chairmen have met with all the candidates, the decision will be sent to the committee and further implemented.
“Facing all the criticism, we will review ourselves and be dedicated to improving the party. It is our mission to win back the election and serve the people once again,” said Wu.
