Long Lunar New Year holiday planned: premier

TAIPEI (CNA) – Taiwan’s government is planning a long Lunar New Year holiday, seven days in duration in 2020, as part of efforts to ensure people have more vacation time to enjoy during the busiest travel period in the year, Premier Su Tseng-chang (蘇貞昌) said today.

It has been decided that the next Lunar New Year holiday will kick off on Jan. 23, the day before Lunar New Year’s eve, to help ease expected heavy traffic in the run-up to the festival, Su told reporters while on an inspection tour in Yunlin County.

Under the plan, workers will have to work on a weekend to make up the missed work day, he said.
