The Fubon Guardians faced off at home against the Chinatrust Brothers in a CPBL match at Xinzhuang Baseball Stadium on June 14. Taiwanese star Chien-Ming Wang, now coach of the pitching for the Fubon Guardians’ second team threw the first pitch. He shouted, “I am so nervous” before his pitch came up short into the ground. This caused an uproar with fans laughing all around the stadium.
Wang has been the second team’s pitching coach for a year now and the players have been demonstrating noticeable improvements. For instance, Yo Ting-wei’s pitching speed improved from 120 to 145 kilometers per hour. Wang is very moved by such performances of his players.
He started by jokingly saying: “I was throwing a forkball.” Later, I was more relaxed and was able to throw straight pitches.
Wang said: “I am very happy to be able to help the Fubon team, in fact, I was very touched by Yo Ting-wei’s excellent pitching”. ●
