There are numerous beautiful, natural landscapes in New Taipei City. Crocodile Island, one of the many from the city, is a must-see attraction in Shiding district.
Shiding’s mountains embrace their neighboring lakes, creating peaceful and dreamy scenery. By booking a day trip, visitors can visit the Yongan Landscape Trail, Dan-Lan Ancient Road and Shiding Old Street.
Shiding Crocodile Island is at the foot of the Feitsui Reservoir and Bishan Village site, which lies in the middle of the Beishi River. Due to the construction of the Feitsui Reservoir, Bishan Village was completely submerged under the reservoir.
The peak of the river bank was surrounded by water, exposing the water surface. The landscape resembles a crocodile floating on the lake, while a distant mountain looms behind. The two aspects combined make a magnificent landscape.
The Yongan landscape trail is short and walkable. The journey is both accessible and suitable for visitors of all ages, and the scenery offered on the trail is beautiful. The beginning sections of the trail are all paved with slate. However, after crossing the trail’s first wooden bridge, visitors are required to trek on dirt roads.
The trail has a total of four bridges that cross the creek. While completing the trail, visitors are accompanied by lush forests. Although the scenery is brimming of trees, the beauty of Beishiu River can still be admired.
Dan-Lan Ancient Road is also in the territory of Shiding. The road is not only a demonstration of the national greenway but also has a topographical appearance. It is one of the very few regions of the world that has a fern plant (double fan fern).
Aside from the beautiful scenery, the Shiding District Office recommends guests to visit the Shiding Old Street to taste authentic, delicious local foods. The tofu cakes from the old street have been selected for the “Best Feature Award.” On the Shiding Old Street, visitors can also admire preserved architectural buildings of the ancient city.
