As a response to the three online-only banks that are expected to operate starting next year, traditional banks in Taiwan have prepared themselves in keeping pace with digital development by, for example, strengthening and expanding online banking services, and providing personalized services via social media and messaging apps, such as LINE.
That is to say, traditional banks are now using LINE not only for marketing purposes but a means to deliver personalized banking services.
Taiwan-based banks, including E.SUN Commercial Bank, CTBC Bank, Cathay United Bank, Bank SinoPac, First Commercial Bank, Mega International Commercial Bank and Chang Hwa Bank, have now launched personalized services via LINE. These services include updating exchange rate information, bills inquiry, online artificial intelligence-based customer services.
For instance, Chang Hwa Bank has collaborated with LINE to launch the LINE Business Connect, a service that links bank account to LINE account which allows users to receive personalized notifications, check bank account, inquire bills and reward points.
