Honorary Professor of National Taiwan University’s College of Law, Ho Te-fen (賀德芬), said that a new study written by Taiwanese-American professor at UNC Charlotte, Hwan C. Lin, reveals serious irregularities surrounding President Tsai Ing-wen’s doctoral thesis.
According to Prof. Ho, the study “On the Authenticity of Tsai’s Doctoral Thesis and Diploma: An Independent Study” (獨立調查報告：蔡英文博士論文與証書的真偽), concludes that Tsai never actually received her doctorate degree at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) in 1984.
Prof. Ho pointed out three irregularities: Tsai’s thesis can’t be found at LSE’s main library; the thesis Tsai had returned to LSE in June this year contained many structural errors; and finally, Tsai’s academic adviser was actually a holder of a bachelor’s degree.
The law professor added that a letter from LSE stated that they never received a thesis from president Tsai. Also, she indicated that the thesis is full of flaws, such as an incomplete name of the university, a format that is inconsistent with 1984 regulations, the printed version even contains pencil marks, and six pages are also missing.
Additionally, Tsai Ing-wen had never revealed her advising professor, but research revealed that it was a journalist with a bachelor’s degree who passed away two years ago.
Prof. Ho called on the president to clear up these allegations, adding “I am not acting on behalf of any political party, nor does this have to do with the upcoming elections. My inquiries are for the respect I have of this country’s academic standards.”
蔡英文以「Unfair trade practices and safeguard actions」為題的畢業論文，於1973年完成，副本於2019年送到圖書館。
The topic of president Tsai’s thesis is “Unfair trade practices and safeguard actions”, completed in 1973, and a copy was given to the library this year.
