The 54th Golden Bell Awards for television announced its finalists yesterday on Aug. 28. Presented by Taiwan’s Ministry of Culture, the annual television production awards in Taiwan is equivalent to the Emmy Awards in the U.S.
There are five series shortlisted in the category for best television series:
“Utopia For The 20s” (20之後) received six nominations. It’s a story surrounded by four 20-year-old friends who experience all the sweetness and bitterness of life together.
“The World Between Us” (我們與惡的距離) led with the most nominations this year, 14 in total. The series describes how the fate of killers, victims, killer and victims’ families and media are intertwined after an indiscriminate killing.
“Survive,” (客家劇場－日據時代的十種生存法則) produced by the Hakka Television Station, got six nominations as well. The storyline is adapted from several works of Loa Ho, a prominent Taiwanese poet and author. Lao Ho is hailed as the “Father of Modern Taiwanese Literature.”
“A Taste to Remember” (菜頭梗的滋味) got five nominations; the film is based on a true story about the highs and lows of the main character’s life.
“A Taiwanese Tale of Two Cities” (雙城故事) also received six nominations. The series is about a story of two girls, one from Taipei and the other a second-generation Taiwanese from San Francisco. They exchange their houses and begin a life-changing journey.
The 2019 Golden Bell Awards for television will be held on Oct.5 at the National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall in Taipei.
