TAIPEI (The China Post) — Fred Chang, 24, from Taiwan successfully won Gordon Ramsay’s heart thanks to a delicate chocolate dessert confectioned in the first round of MasterChef, an American competitive cooking reality show.
The famous chef, who is a judge in the show’s 10th season, cleaned his plate and handed it back to Chang to show his appreciation. He added that this was one of the best desserts he had tasted in this contest.
Chang, a revenue analyst who was born in Taipei, migrated to the U.S. with family when he was one year old. He started his journey in the kitchen with vegetarian cupcakes when he was 15.
He returned to Taiwan two years ago, seeking his root and learning to prepare local delights such as beef noodles, steam dumplings (Hsiao long bao) and scallion pancakes.
He successfully joined MasterChef with the goal of introducing Taiwan cuisine overseas.
Chang first participated in the audition of season eight and nine but failed to advance in the next round, meaning that he didn’t have a chance to join the show.
Chang performed much better this season, which started airing in May.
He even finished in the top ten. Chang wrote to Instagram: “You could go from being a double reject from a show to making your dreams come true!” The MasterChef season 10 is broadcast in Taiwan every Sunday night.

Season 10. To think I would try out three seasons in a row and then finally make it to the Masterchef kitchen, and the top 10 at that! I’m so proud of myself for making it to this point, and I’m a winner in my own eyes just for making the friends that I did along this journey. It’s been a long three years, from trying out as a college senior in Boston for season 8 to auditioning side by side with @ralphdegala for season 9 to finally being a part of the amazing group of contestants I got to be a part of this year! I’m definitely proud to have cooked along side cooks such as but not limited to @platingqueen, @nick.digiovanni, and @spicedupmom to name three of the many! The sky is the limit and never forget that. You could go from being a double reject from a show to making your dreams come true!
