More than 200,000 people joined the grand opening of the 2019 Taiwan Design Expo, which kicked off in Pingtung, southern Taiwan, on Oct. 5.
The 16-day-long “Super South” (超級南)exhibition spans across 6,600 square meters at Taisugar Civic Park (台糖縣民公園) with the aim of building the world’s largest “design supermarket.”
To highlight the local culture, the curator settled shopping carts for visitors who can wave through the exhibition space in style.
According to the organizers, this is the first time that a major exhibition is organized at Taisugar Civic Park, allowing the public to learn more about Taiwan’s industrial past at the same time.
Besides the main venue, there is a satellite venue located at the nearby Pingtung Cultural Center in Shengli New Village (勝利星村創意生活園區).
Two design hotspots are also set at Pingtung Art Museum (屏東美術館) and Zhutian Xishi Dementia- Friendly Community (竹田西勢樂智園區). The exhibition also hosts a number of events such as a weekend market and various outdoor activities.
The five exhibition areas at the main venues include “Pingtung Thing,” “Pingtung Power,” “Pingtung Utopia,” “Pingtung Issue” and “Pingtung Ya.”
At the main venue, Gala Asia at Pingtung also provides local specialties such as designer products, agricultural goods and lifestyle tools. There is also a limited lunch box made of Pingtung local products and two kinds of Japan train bento boxes available.
