Upgraded FamilyMart app allows you to remit money

TAIPEI (The China Post) — Taiwan’s second-largest convenience store chain FamilyMart (全家便利商店) recently upgraded its mobile payment platform allowing you to make a cash deposit and remit money directly with your smartphone’s app wallet.

The new service comes in addition to My FamiPay, the popular mobile payment app launched two years ago in response to 7-Eleven’s mobile payment platform started in 2015.

Chien Kuo-wei (簡國維), a spokesperson of FamilyMart, said around 10 million people use My FamiPay app on average, and the new service could help expand that reach to 11 million by the end of this year.

Chien added that more than 100,000 users have already used the new function since it was launched on Oct. 23.

To support his argument, he pointed out that the average payment per person in a store is NT$80, meaning that most people would pay with an NT$100 bill and receive NT$20 in coins.

Chien stressed that the new function lets clients deposit their loose change directly in their smartphone app to avoid the inconvenience of carrying too many coins in their pockets.

Thanks to the upgrade, you can deposit up to NT$5,000 in your app wallet and remit money to others without linking your account to a credit card.
