‘Sea of flowers’ blossoms in Taoyuan Daxi

TAIPEI (The China Post) — If you are still considering a spot for a family outing over the weekend, then Taoyuan County should be your top choice. As winter is drawing near, flowers are in full blossom in northern Taiwan.

The 2019 Taoyuan Flower festival, which runs until Dec. 1, is the perfect destination for the young and the young at heart to take pictures among a sea of flowers.

Among other highlights, the Daxi event, which is located next to “Lee Teng-fan’s Ancient Residence” (百年李騰芳古宅), features a 17-hectare flower field as well as smaller fields filled with unique patterns, including a Christmas tree and a teapot.

The Daxi exhibition area is open until Nov. 17.

The fifth Taoyuan Flower Festival boasts three main exhibition areas, including Daxi, Zhongli, and Pingzhen districts.

The city government decided to plant flowers on display during the land retirement in agricultural fields because the central government urged the farmers to retire lands from production while facing the water shortage, according to Taoyuan Mayor Cheng Wen-tsan (鄭文燦).
