The 2019 Taichung International Flower Carpet Festival runs from Nov. 9 to Dec. 1. This year’s festival combines the Xinshe Flower Sea with the Central Taiwan Agriculture Expo.
In anticipation of the traffic jam that could occur from people flocking to the festival, the Transportation Bureau of the Taichung City Government has prepared four shuttle bus lines from Taiyuan Parking Lot, Fengyuan Railway Station, Dongshi Riverside Park, and Xinshe District Office (櫻木花道線), respectively.
Free shuttle buses are available to ferry visitors to the 2019 Taichung International Flower Carpet Festival.
In addition to the free shuttle buses, the Taichung City Government has also provided 11 parking lots, with a total of 3,674 parking spaces for cars and 1,653 parking spaces for scooters.
In addition, free shuttle bus lines (Fengyuan, Taiyuan, and Xinshe District Office) start from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. (weekdays and weekends), with the exception of Dongshi (only on weekends).
The Transportation Bureau said that all four lines of the free shuttle buses start from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. while the buses heading back starts from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. On weekdays, the intervals between rides are around 20 to 30 minutes while buses on weekends ferry passengers every 15-20 minutes. The buses will only head out after a full seating, so as not to waste time or space.
The Transportation Bureau of the Taichung City Government also suggested that visitors taking the train can alight at Fengyuan Station and walk towards the west end to board the shuttle from the station. If visitors are planning on getting there by car, locals from the city and Beitun district can park in the Taiyuan parking lot, Dakeng parking lot, and Zhong Shin Lin, then take the shuttle to the park.
Locals from Fengyuan, Dongshi, and Shigang District are advised to park their cars in Dongshi Riverside Park parking lot, Xinshe High School parking lot (only available on weekends), Xinshe District Office parking lot, and Xinshe Environmental-Friendly Park parking lot, then take the Dongshi line to get to the park. Visitors from local mountain areas can take the Xinshe District Office shuttle bus to the park.
This year’s festival is centered around “The Little Prince”, and many of the floral displays depict characters or scenes from the story.
Furthermore, three parking lots, exclusive for festival-goers and handicapped drivers, are provided. Including the surrounding parking lots (Taiyuan, Dakeng, Dongshi Riverside Park, Xinshe High School, Xinshe District Office, Xinshe Environmental-Friendly Park, and Zhong Shin Lin), there are a total of 3,674 parking spaces for cars, and 1,653 parking spaces for scooters.
Every parking lot comes with its own shuttle bus station to ferry people to and from the festival.
The director of the Transportation Bureau, Yeh Chao-fu, calls for visitors who intend on driving to the park to utilize the parking lots surrounding the area and then taking shuttle buses into the park to avoid traffic jams.
He also pointed out that most roads are quite narrow in Xinshe, so during the festival traffic control will be present to help maintain traffic and closely monitor parking violations. He urges everyone to follow the instructions given by traffic control to ensure that traffic moves along easily.
