Music festival in Italian Alps will give you chills – literally

Instruments carved from ice are used at the Ice Music Festival in Italy's Val di Sole.

A festival in the Italian province of Trentino is aiming to elevate apres-ski to new levels – both literally and culturally.

The Ice Music Festival in the Val di Sole takes place in an ice dome at an altitude of 2,600 metres, at the arrival station of the Passo Paradiso ski lift from the Tonale Pass.

Skiers and music lovers alike can enjoy around 50 concerts, as well as art installations and theatre performances focused on the theme of climate change.

Some of the concerts will even feature music with instruments carved from ice.

The festival runs from January 9 March 28. Just be sure to wrap up warm, as the dome has to be kept cold to ensure the props don’t melt.
