Places to party for New Year’s Eve across Taiwan

TAIPEI (CNA) — With 2020 just around the corner, countdown parties and firework displays have been organized around the country to celebrate the end of the year and to create a festive cheer to embrace the incoming year.

At the various New Year’s Eve parties, celebrities, singers and dancers will perform across the country to join crowds in counting down the arrival of 2020 and bringing the decade to a close.

Starting in the capital, the 2020 Taipei New Year’s Eve Party and the Taipei 101 fireworks display at Taipei City Hall Square will kick off at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday and will be headlined by Golden Melody Award winners rapper Leo Wang (LEO王) and R&B crooner ØZI (陳奕凡).

This year’s Taipei 101 fireworks display will have approximately 16,000 rounds and run for 300 seconds, in combination with animations on the building’s giant T-Pad wall, which is made up of 140,000 LED bulbs and covers the exterior from the 35th to the 90th floor.

The animations will feature rare and protected species in Taiwan, such as the leopard cat, Formosan black bear, mikado pheasant and green sea turtle, along with themes such as hope, nature, moving forward and bright future.

Also in Taipei, the Miramar Entertainment Park’s “2020 Enjoy love, enjoy life” party, being held in the site’s plaza, starts at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday and will feature performances by singer-songwriters Yo Lee (李友廷) and Ann (白安), and rapper Trout Fresh (呂士軒).

Keelung’s New Year Countdown 2019, which begins at 7:45 p.m. Tuesday at Keelung Harbor, will include performances by rock and metal bands Flesh Juicer (血肉果汁機), Random (隨性), and Amazing show (美秀集團).

Taoyuan’s News Year’s Eve Celebration, which will run from 7 p.m. Tuesday until 12:30 a.m. Wednesday in front of the high-speed rail’s Taoyuan Station, will include singers Jeannie Hsieh (謝金燕), Nick Chou (周湯豪), Yao Yao (郭書瑤), and rock band Fire EX. (滅火器樂團).

Meanwhile, in central Taiwan, a party at Taichung’s Lihpao Land, will kick off at 6 p.m. Tuesday and run through 1 a.m. Wednesday with performances by singers and bands including Jacky Wu (吳宗憲), Rainie Yang (楊丞琳), Lala Hsu (徐佳瑩), Cyndi Wang (王心凌), and Bii (畢書盡).

Another countdown party in Taichung will be held from 7 p.m. Tuesday until 12:30 a.m. Wednesday at a sports park in the city’s Taiping District with performances by singers Eric Chou (周興哲), Chan Ya-Wen (詹雅雯), Weng Li-you (翁立友), and Huang Fei (黃妃).

The New Year’s Eve party in Nantou will start rocking the night away at 7 p.m. Tuesday at its county stadium, with performances by Emma Wu (吳映潔), Olivia Tsao (曹雅雯), Janice Yan (閻奕格), and Rēd° (芮德).

Nantou Qingjing Farm’s New Year’s Eve party will let get going at 7 p.m. and finish at 0:50 a.m. Wednesday at its tourist center parking lot, with performances by Cheer (孟慶而), DJ Bella, and Bounce181.

Meanwhile the county’s Sun Moon Lake New Year’s Eve party, which will feature 420 seconds of fireworks, will kick off at 8 p.m. Tuesday and end at 12:15 a.m. Wednesday at Shuishe Pier in Yuchi Township.

The New Year’s Eve party at Janfusun Fancyworld in Yunlin County will showcase a fireworks display of 566 seconds and performances by singers Kimberley Chen (陳芳語), J.Sheon, Amuyi (呂薔) and rock band YellowBlack (耶魯布萊克樂團).

The Chiayi City government’s New Year’s Eve party opens at 6 p.m. Tuesday and will run until 12:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Chiayi City Municipal Stadium, with performances by rock band The Chairman (董事長樂團), and singers Pets Tseng (曾沛慈), Mini Tsai (蔡黃汝), and Showlen Maya (秀蘭瑪雅).

Also in southern Taiwan, Tainan’s New Year’s Eve Party will be held from 7 p.m. Tuesday until 12:30 a.m. Wednesday at Tainan Art Museum Building 2 and include headline performances by Taiwan’s godfather of rap Dwagie (大支) and other rappers from his crew Kungfu Entertainment.

Kaohsiung’s Dream Mall New Year’s Eve party will kick off at 7 p.m. Tuesday and run until 1 a.m. Wednesday with performances by singers Jam Hsiao (蕭敬騰), Ding Dang (丁噹), Amber An (安心亞), and Andrew Tan (陳勢安).

Also, in the southern port city, Kaohsiung’s E-Da World New Year Eve’s fireworks will showcase a 999-second fireworks and light display, with DJs on the decks and dancers on the stage.
