TAIPEI (The China Post) — The first section of the Circular Line in Taipei’s mass rapid transit (MRT), which links four adjacent nodes — Bannan, Zhonghe-Xinlu, Songshan -Xindian and Taoyuan Airport Line, officially began operations on Friday.
The new service spans 15.4 kilometers in length, providing free service until March 1 from 6 a.m. to 12:01 a.m. every day.
The service will benefit the four districts with the highest population density in New Taipei City – Xindian, Zhonghe,Banqiao and Xinzhuang, New Taipei Mayor Hou Yu-ih said during his inspection tour on Thursday.
The travel time between Banqiao to Zhonghe or Zonghe to Xindian takes roughly 9-12 minutes since passengers in New Taipei can now travel around the city without having to transfer at Taipei Station.
The new MRT line is also expected to save much time of passengers transferring to the Taoyuan Airport.
For instance, you can take the Circular Line at Xinpu Mingshen Station to New Taipei Industrial park and transfer to Taoyuan airport. The new route can help you save nearly 15 minutes.
In light of the ongoing virus outbreak, all MRT trains are sterilized every eight hours, Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je said during the circular line opening ceremony on Friday.
