Canadian YouTuber, Eileen Aldis sold all her belongings in 2017 and embarked on an adventure around the world. In her three years as a globe-trotter, Eileen has not only visited Finland and Norway, but also spent some time in Taiwan.

位於高雄左營區的劉家火鍋堅持傳統做法,在特製的長管古銅鍋內,加入自家古法醃製酸菜熬湯,艾琳特別喜歡酸菜湯的滋味。除了火鍋的美味,最讓艾琳讚不絕口的是涼拌龍鬚菜這道小菜,青脆的口感,爽口又好吃,這道菜形容成「龍的鬍鬚」真的超適合。

Liu’s Hot Pot in Zuoying, Kaohsiung stands apart from other restaurants in its insistence in using traditional methods. Best known for its copper hot pots, Liu’s adds salted cold fermented green cabbage that are made in-house into the broth, bringing many different flavors into the dish.

Aside from its hot pot, Eileen is also a big fan of “dragon whiskers”. Eileen immediately fell in love with its crisp taste and funny name, claiming it to be the best named vegetable in Taiwan.

來到台南,當然不能錯過台南最具代表性的台灣傳統小吃,這家位於中正區度小月擔仔麵,讓艾琳一吃就愛上這滋味。艾琳很認真地研究這古早味擔仔麵好吃的秘訣,才知道原來度小月是因為百餘年前當地漁民在颱風季節,無法出海捕魚,只好挑著扁擔在街頭賣麵,麵條淋上特製肉燥加上蝦仁和肉片,以蝦殼與豬肉熬煮的高湯,加點黑醋調味,簡單的擔仔麵擄獲台南人的味蕾飄香百餘年,也讓艾琳一吃就愛上這滋味。

When visiting Tainan, one can never miss the opportunity to taste traditional Taiwanese cuisines. One of Tainan’s most famous local delicacies is Zhongzheng District’s Du Xiao Yuei Danzi Noodles.

Eileen’s love for the noodles induced her to find out the history behind “Du Xiao Yuei”. Created by a fisherman in 1895, the noodles were a way for him to make money during typhoons when fishing was difficult, hence the name “Du Xiao Yuei” (literal meaning: living through the bad months).

The fisherman carried the noodles on a pole and sold them to get through the hard times. Danzi noodles are seasoned with special minced pork, shrimp, vinegar sauce, and prawn soup. With just one bite, the Danzi noodles won over Eileen’s stomach and heart.

艾琳愛在台灣旅行,發現台灣從南到北任何一個地方,都可以吃到好吃又方便的水餃,這也是艾琳台灣美食巡禮最常吃的食物。艾琳特別喜歡台北的巧之味餃子館,這裡的三種水餃艾琳一口氣點齊,艾琳最喜歡的是綠皮干貝水餃。加上綠藻汁做成的水餃皮,內餡包有高麗菜、豬肉和一整顆干貝。手工的餃子,在艾琳的細細品味下為這趟台灣美食之旅畫上完美的句點。

When traveling in Taiwan, Eileen discovered that no matter where she went, there was always a delicious dumpling shop just around the corner, making them one of dishes she eats most often. Eileen especially loves “Takumi Dumplings” in Taipei.

Among the three types of dumplings, Eileen’s favorite is the green scallop ones. The pastry is made of green algae and is filled with cabbage, pork, and a whole dried scallop. The hand-made dumplings not only made a lasting impression on Eileen but also concluded her wonderful trip in Taiwan.
