Amid the COVID-19 outbreak, Japan announced a state of emergency last Thursday to curb the surging number of infections nationwide and the growing demand for face masks.
In light of shortages, a Japanese apparel manufacturing company, Atsumi Fashion, has launched the “Lace Bra Masks” which became viral minutes after their announcement.
The “Lace Bra Masks,” which come in various shapes and colors, have created a buzz online.
原先Atsumi Fashion推出內衣口罩只是半開玩笑，找來日本模特兒Aya Kondo試戴內衣口罩，沒想到引來日本網友大批正面回應，直誇設計很好看。
The masks were originally produced as a joke by the company which asked Japanese celebrity Aya Kondo to help model the funny merchandise. To their surprise, the concept of the “Lace Bra Mask” was well-received by the public with many commending the beautiful design.
Thanks to its warm reception, Atsumi Fashion announced more variations of the “Lace Bra Masks” which were officially released on the market on April 18.
The masks are priced at 1,490 Japanese yen each (NT$417), which is about half the price of a mid-range bra sold in Japan.
During the first test, Atsumi Fashion offered 50 bra masks that came in white, pink, green, blue and black.
As the pandemic worsens, Atsumi Fashion has announced that the next batch is already in production.
As of today, Japan has 11,154 confirmed cases and 276 deaths according to the NHK.
