Two men, who volunteered and worked at Ronald McDonald House Charities, are accused of stealing a total of NT$5 million (US$166,383) from donation boxes.

Taipei Prosecutors Office reportedly conducted a thorough search earlier today and interviewed seven suspects, including two men, surnamed Len and Lan.

Founded in 1997, Ronald McDonald House Charities aims at bringing medical, dental and health care resources to children and families in vulnerable communities. The charity puts the donation boxes at McDonald’s across Taiwan to raise funds and collect rewards from the Uniform Invoice Lottery.

The prosecutor received reports about the two suspects who allegedly stole donation money for eight years. One of them is a volunteer while the other is a staff at the charity. The total amount of money missing since 2012 could be as high as NT$5 million.

Taipei Prosecutors Office set an NT$200,000 bail for Len and restricted him from leaving the country, pending further investigations.
