TAIPEI (The China Post) — Have you ever noticed the manhole covers scattered around the city? No, right! Well, Taipei’s Hydraulic Engineering Office has launched a program to highlight the design of manhole covers located in Taipei’s four districts — Nangang, Wanhua, Datong and Zhongzheng District — as part of “The city beautification project.”

Based on the district characteristics, the four teams in charge of this project created eight patterns, aimed at adding lively colors to the city with the aim of making it more attractive.

A new “Manhole Cover Design Exhibition” or ” “Taipei Guishu,” which literally translates as “Taipei is so beautiful” in Taiwanese, echoes the relationship between the manhole cover and water conservancy. Each manhole cover design is connected with features of the district.

The manhole cover design features hand-painted patterns and the coating materials are specially developed for this project. Each color is carefully adjusted by the designers, making one-of-a-kind manhole covers come under the spotlight in the city.
