TAIPEI (CNA) — Japan’s representative to Taiwan Hiroyasu Izumi posted a photo of a cat and two kittens on his office’s Facebook page Sunday, wishing her Happy Mother’s Day.

Izumi said he named the cat Landlady because she has been living at his residence in Yangmingshan, Taipei, longer than him or his predecessor.

The cat recently gave birth to three kittens, one of which was adopted by his driver’s friend, Izumi said in the post.

Since then, Landlady has been guarding the other two kittens for fear of losing them, said Izumi, who took up the post as head of the Japan-Exchange Exchange Association in Taipei last October.

The association represents Japanese interests in Taiwan in the absence of official diplomatic ties.

To celebrate Mother’s Day, Izumi said, he was planning to prepare the cat’s favorite food for her.
