TAIPEI (CNA) — American fast food chain McDonald’s said Wednesday that in conjunction with health care and beauty care chain Watsons and boutique hotel chain amba, it will provide customers with discounts valued at more than NT$5,000 (US$167), in an effort to encourage spending in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In a statement, McDonald’s said 2.5 million coupon booklets, with a combined value of NT$5,300 each, will be handed out to patrons at the fast food chain and Watsons around Taiwan from Thursday to Sunday and be valid from June 3-30.
The coupons include NT$200 of discounts at McDonald’s, NT$100 at Watsons and NT$5,000 at amba, of which NT$2,000 can be used in the hotel chain’s restaurants and NT$3,000 on room bookings, the fast food restaurant said.
McDonald’s said coupon holders visiting its outlets will receive a NT$10 discount for every purchase of NT$100 at breakfast time.
Purchases of NT$200 will receive a NT$20 discount, with a NT$40 discount for NT$400 and so on, throughout the rest of the day, McDonald’s added.
However, the fast food chain said the coupons are only valid for cash purchases, while outlets in some department stores, shopping malls and special locations will not participate in the promotion.
In addition, discounts will not be available on McDonald’s food delivery services and self-help digital order machines, the fast food chain said.
