TAIPEI (CNA) — Taiwanese electric scooter brand Gogoro on Wednesday introduced its first hybrid bicycle, the Eeyo, at a launch ceremony at its Taipei 101 concept store.

The human-electric hybrid bike, which has been in the making since 2015, was a natural choice for Gogoro, given Taiwan’s global leadership in the fields of bicycle production and information and communications technology (ICT), the company’s co-founder and CEO Horace Luke (陸學森) said at the launch ceremony.

He said Gogoro plans to promote its ebike technology for use by small and medium-sized bicycle manufacturers to produce hybrid bikes.

According to Luke, the Eeyo’s motor was developed by Gogoro, while its frame was custom made by an original equipment manufacturer in Taiwan.

The bicycle, 100 percent made in Taiwan, will be also be marketed in Europe and the United States, he said.

According to the company’s global website, the Eeyo will be sold at a starting price of US$3,899.
