Brilliant ‘Underwater Pride Dance’ wins int’l accolade

TAIPEI (The China Post) — The theme song of the “National High School Games” (全國中等學校運動會), “Keep Going Pingtung” (屏東), successfully combines Pingtung’s bird shrike moves into a unique and spectacular choreography called the “Pride Dance” (驕仔舞).

Of the countless versions released online, a “Pride Dance” performed underwater has emerged as the most popular.

The Taiwan Diving company created the 30-second “Undersea Pride Dance” in Kenting which has become one of the most impressive dance versions.

The local diving instructor, Chen Chi-en (陳琦恩), said that the National High School Games is an extraordinary event in Pingtung. The choreography aims to entice more people to join in.

The hugely popular event started in April but was postponed due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

The event will be resumed from July 18 to July 23 in a southern county of Taiwan, according to the Pingtung government announced.

In preparation for this event, many institutions and schools in the county have worked hard to practice making videos, creating many versions all over the Internet.

The creative “Pride Dance” even influenced the Pingtung County Magistrate Pan Men-an (潘孟安) to personally take the director of the Bureau to shoot the video.
