TAIPEI (The China Post) — New Taipei Mayor Hou You-yi (侯友宜) responded on Monday to a public opinion poll which revealed that he has a huge lead over other candidates in the 2022 New Taipei City mayoral election.
In response, Hou said that these polls motivate him to work harder to improve the city. He highlighted that there is a lot to do to improve the city. To make progress, he stated that he will up his efforts to live up to the expectations of the citizens and to fulfill his duties as a mayor.
He also underlined that his responsibility is to protect the 4.02 million people living in the city and not a particular political party. He says that his greatest responsibility now is to ensure that the city continues to progress and prosper.
His comments came in response to a public opinion poll conducted by My Formosa (美麗島電子報). The poll disclosed that Hou has a support rating of 82.4 percent.
His numbers surpass those of the Minister of Health and Welfare (MOHW, 衛生福利部) Chen Shih-chung (陳時中) and Democratic Progressive Party (DPP, 民進黨) Legislator Su Chiao-hui (蘇巧慧).
The poll also showed that 74.1 percent of citizens trust Hou, which is an increase of 13.3 percent from a poll conducted 11 months prior. Also, 89.4 percent of citizens are also satisfied with Hou’s performance, which is an 18.9 percent increase from the same poll conducted 11 months ago. Even Pan-Green respondents had an 87.3 percent approval rating of Hou.
