TAIPEI (The China Post) — Taiwan People’s Party’s (TPP, 台灣民眾黨) candidate for the Kaohsiung mayoral by-election Wu Yi-jheng (吳益政) responded to allegations from the Democratic Progressive Party’s (DPP, 民進黨) candidate Chen Chi-mai (陳其邁) that the TPP’s Founder and Chairman Ko Wen-je (柯文哲) was using Wu as a stepping stone to help support his own campaign in the 2024 Presidential Election.

Wu said that while all the policies Wu included in his platform for the election were proposed by Ko, he believes that Ko was just trying to help him.

Wu explained that Ko’s run to be president in 2024 will be the largest threat to a DPP candidate. As a result, they are doing everything they can to suppress Ko’s supporter base.

Wu said that every political party wants to grow its supporter base. He added that since the DPP are the ruling party, they do not need to worry.

He believes all they need to do to win more supporters is by putting out a clear vision for Kaohsiung.

Wu concluded by saying that because the KMT and the DPP are afraid of Ko, Wu has become a target in the election. He hopes that people can see that the DPP is using this ridiculous idea that Ko is using him to distract from the goals and objectives Wu hopes to achieve if elected.

Wu also decried the DPP’s method and hopes that all candidates, regardless of their political party, can focus on growing their own supporter base rather than trying to take down another party’s.
