TAIPEI (The China Post) — With no one hitting the jackpot again earlier this week, Taiwan’s Power Lottery (威力彩) will hit NT$2.5 billion (US$84.9 million) on Thursday.
In a bid to encourage more people to try their luck, Taiwan Lottery unveiled that of the 30 jackpots ever won in Taiwan, 9 were from Taichung, making it the most “fortune-nate“ city.
According to Taiwan Lottery statistics, the jackpot has only been claimed 30 times since the Power Lottery was launched in 2008. While Taichung City is deemed the “luckiest” with 9 jackpots, New Taipei and Tainan follow closely behind, with 5 and 4 jackpots, respectively.
In addition, according to Chinese-language media, Kaohsiung and Taipei City are also not bad choices for people who want to get lucky as records show the cities have 3 and 2 jackpots, respectively.
To date, the highest jackpot prize ever won in Taiwan (around NT$3 billion) was also won by four colleagues who bought their lucky ticket at “Cashbox Lottery” (金錢櫃彩券行) in Wufeng District, Taichung City.
