Taiwanese YouTuber, Maggie Wu, who has hosted a bilingual talk show for the past thirteen years, moved to Germany last year. Since then, she has filmed many videos introducing tourism and daily life in Germany. In her latest video, she talks about the German culture and what living in Germany is like.
“German culture shock as a Taiwanese while living in Germany” is about the many differences between Taiwan and Germany. The video features Maggie and her friends who explore the good and bad things about living in a foreign country.
The group pointed out that moving from one country to another is no easy task, and comes with many challenges. When you immigrate, you might face some financial challenges too, they added, as for many people, the journey would actually eat into their savings.
The friends mentioned that some had given up their original job and are still struggling to learn the new language. If you wish to immigrate, you will have to learn the local culture too. All of the above can be challenging for many people, but all it takes is time and patience, they said.
They stressed that Germany has a different culture too. People get off of work earlier than they would in Taiwan and kids are free from cram schools unlike in Taiwan.
The group acknowledged that this is a good thing about Germany because parents have more time to interact with their kids. And since kids are free right after school, they can explore nature and have fun learning from their new experiences, instead of being stuck indoors the whole day.
Moving to a new country and becoming a “foreigner” is very difficult, but there are definitely good things that come with exploring a new place! Follow Maggie’s journey as she explores more cultures and habits of Germans!
