Artist sees the world through eggshell canvas

TAIPEI (The China Post) — “People believe eggshells are very fragile. But for our artists… eggshells are strong”

In ancient China, red eggs were sent as presents for weddings and celebrations. Over centuries, it has transformed into a craft mastered by Chinese artists.

Intricate eggshell craft has attracted the likes of artists and buyers. Despite their small size, different eggshells can be carved into shapes and designs limited only by your imagination.

Artists use miniature drills to carve out detailed pictures, each telling its own story. An eggshell craftsman (shifu) from Guangzhou, China explains that there is “a whole world to explore” from egg craft.

Through painstakingly sculpted pieces, these invaluable eggs pass on Chinese legends, themes, and calligraphy through time.
