As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to spread, governments have urged citizens to practice social distancing to slow down transmission rates.
Coincidentally, netizens on Reddit recently unearthed an old Taiwanese TV series from 2004 depicting the perfect “social distancing dance” to the amusement of many.
“This is how characters fight in an old Taiwanese series,” a Reddit user wrote. The clip, taken from an old Taiwanese TV series “Top on the Forbidden City” shows two male leads, played by actors JR and Gino, having a dance-off in the rain.
In the video clip, the two leads bump shoulders, glare at each other, and begin their dance-off. However, they never touch one another as they mimic and combine fighting moves with their silly dance moves.
Meanwhile, the female lead in the show, played by Joanne Tseng, shouts from the background, “Stop fighting!”, cementing the show’s status as a classic from 2000.
“Top on the Forbidden City” follows the love triangle between characters, Sunny (晴天), Scorpio (天蠍), and Hsiao-Ing (小影). The show was a hit in the early 2000s and catapulted the actors into the limelight.
After 16 years, foreigners have unearthed this gem of a TV series and began their own dialogue and interpretation of the show.
The post has since attracted the attention of Reddit users, with many commenting, “Is that social distance fighting?”, “Backstreet’s back alright,” “WWE could learn a thing or two,” and “I always wondered what would happen if you combined a step up movie with a Kung Fu movie.”
