TAIPEI (CNA) — An additional 185 train journeys will be added to railway services from Sept. 30 to Oct. 5 to meet an expected surge in demand during the Mid-Autumn Festival long weekend, the Taiwan Railways Administration (TRA) said Tuesday.
The additional 185 train trips will include eight Fu-hsing semi-express trains from Shulin in New Taipei to Hualien from Oct. 1 to 4, the TRA said.
Passengers who buy tickets on those eight trains will only have to pay NT$100 (US$3.4) for seats between Taipei and Yilan and NT$200 for seats between Taipei and Hualien, the TRA said.
There will also be an additional two trains running between Shulin and Taitung during off-peak hours during the holiday, with fares for those services to be discounted by 30 percent.
Meanwhile, an additional six Tze-chiang express trains have been scheduled on the Hualien and Taitung routes on Sept. 30, Oct. 1, Oct. 3 and Oct. 4, but the TRA ticketing system will require the passenger’s name and ID number for bookings on those trains so that Hualien and Taitung residents get priority in buying tickets.
Travelers can book seats on trains for the holiday period starting on Sept. 2 both onlineand by telephone.
