TAIPEI (The China Post) – President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) reminded those who still doubt the nation’s existence that “Taiwan is Taiwan” in a series of pictures posted to Twitter on Thursday night.

“This is my response to those who doubt Taiwan’s existence,” she said about the pictures showing her interacting with members of the public and is superimposed with quotes taken from a recent speech hosted by the Australian Strategic Policy Institute.

The first picture boasted the “Taiwan is Taiwan” headline to emphasize that the nation has its own “military and democratic institutions, none of which have ever been under Beijing’s jurisdiction.”

The second and third pictures emphasized that “The future of Taiwan is to be decided by the people of Taiwan” and Taiwan “is open to discussions with China, as long as they contribute to a beneficial relationship,” respectively.

The last photo pointed out that “it is important that such discussions with China are based on the four principles: that is peace, parity, democracy, and dialogue.”
