TAIPEI (CNA) — An American destroyer sailed south through the Taiwan Strait on Monday in a “regular operation,” the Ministry of National Defense (MND) said Monday.

The MND stressed that Taiwan’s military is fully aware of movements at sea and in airspace near Taiwan and that no abnormalities were detected.

The statement did not identify the U.S. vessel.

According to the MND, this was the ninth transit by a U.S. military ship through the Taiwan Strait this year, following a passage by the guided-missile destroyer USS Mustin on Aug. 18-19.
