Costco is known for selling a wide variety of items with a return and exchange system that is quite popular among Taiwanese.
Recently, a post shared on Facebook showed the astonishing 1.5 times price-soar of Swiss gold bars sold at Costco over the past two years.
The social media user posted on Facebook group “Costco merchandise real talk” (Costco好市多 商品經驗老實說) a comparison picture, showing a 2018 photograph of Costco selling “Swiss original 999.9 one kilogram gold bars” with the price at around NT$1.22 million.
This year, the person went back to Costco on Sept. 7 only to find that the price of the gold bars have soared to NT$1.85 million.
The post wrote that through simple calculation, one can see that the price rose around NT$624,500 in two years’ time, and lamented the fact that he didn’t buy it sooner.
Many took to the comment section and wrote, “A word before is worth two after”, while others poked fun at their own expenses and commented, “I’m not sad about the NT$600,000 or so loss, but rather the lack of NT$1.22 million to buy it in the first place.”
