The COVID-19 pandemic has brought the death toll in the U.S to an alarming 230,000 in just a few months.
Against this backdrop, Taiwanese foreign correspondent Huang Chien-ping, decided to share on her Facebook page a disturbing image taken in front of the White House on Thursday, stressing that “many Americans are envious of Taiwan’s virus-prevention efforts.”
According to Huang, 160,000 small white flags could be seen on the White House lawn to represent the lives lost to COVID, as well as a woman kneeling in front of the flags, clutching two of her own.
Huang explained that “every flag represents a person who lost his or her live to the deadly pandemic.”
Huang added that the cemetery-like scene disturbed her greatly, and also reflected that Taiwan is really lucky to have such good virus-prevention measures.
Social media users soon flocked to the comment section to express their sorrow at the images and gave words of encouragement to continue the battle against COVID-19.
