穿「L」號女性就是「爛」? 網友怒中國大潤發身體羞辱 | Taiwanese chain RT-Mart under fire for blatant fat-shaming in China

【看CP學英文】中國一間大潤發賣場的女裝尺碼建議表將L號稱為「爛」,XXL號更稱為「稀巴爛」,引發輿論撻伐。中國大潤發今天發表聲明道歉,但網友怒氣未消,揚言抵制,相關新聞衝上熱搜冠軍。

A women’s clothing size recommendation chart at an RT-Mart store in China recently called the L symbol “lame” and the XXL symbol “lame to the core,” prompting a public outcry for the company’s blatant fat-shaming. 

The Taiwanese chain store’s China division immediately issued an apology on Tuesday, but social media users are still furious and are threatening to boycott the company, making it the “top search” for related news.

微博大V「搞笑迷惑大賞」11日上傳一張在中國大潤發賣場拍攝的女裝尺碼建議表照片,該表稱女生穿S號是「瘦」、M號是「美」,L、XL、XXL號卻分別標示「爛」、「稀爛」與「稀巴爛」。

According to a picture posted on Weibo, in the women’s clothing section of China’s RT-Mart, clothes sizes “S” are deemed “slim”, “M” is “beautiful”, “L” is “lame”, “XL” is “extra lame” and “XXL” is “lame to the core.”

這個尺碼建議表還強調「僅限18-35歲女生,根據身材請先諮詢客服」。

This sizing advice sheet also emphasized that it was “only for girls aged 18-35” and added, “depending on your size, please consult customer service first.” 

這張照片立刻引發網路瘋傳,網友怒批這種糟糕的措辭是在販賣身材和年齡焦慮,而且以身材作為界定標準,是物化女性的行為,令人厭惡。

The photo immediately went viral online, with social media users criticizing the poor wording for promoting body and age-related anxieties and for objectifying women by defining them by their size.

事件延燒一天後,中國大潤發12日透過官方微博發表聲明稱,由於措辭不當,為公眾帶來了不適,對此深表歉意。

A day after the incident, China’s RT-Mart released an official statement on Weibo, apologizing for the inappropriate wording, which had caused public discomfort.

聲明並稱,事件發生以後,大潤發第一時間徹查了所有門市,確認僅有一家門市有此類情況,總部已迅速要求該門市撤下了有問題的宣傳。對於此次的單一事件,大潤發今後將會加強內部管理,確保此類事件不再發生。

The statement also said that after the incident, RT-Mart immediately and thoroughly investigated all its stores and confirmed that only one store had this type of placard. 

They assured the public that the head office had quickly asked the store to remove the problematic sign.

In response to this incident, RT-Mart vowed to strengthen its internal management to ensure that such incidents will not occur again.

不過對於中國大潤發的道歉聲明,網友顯然不買帳,持續在微博留言、轉傳相關圖片,並揚言要發起抵制。

Despite RT-Mart’s apology, enraged social media users have continued to leave comments on Weibo, re-posting pictures and threatening to boycott the store.
