Samsung to unveil Galaxy S21 next week

TAIPEI (The China Post) — Samsung Electronics Co. on Monday confirmed plans to unveil its next-generation Galaxy S21 smartphone next week as it tries to fend off challenges from Apple Inc. and Chinese brands.

Samsung’s Galaxy S21 smartphone series will be unveiled next week at Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, according to the company.

“Mobile technology is at the heart of everyday life as people work away and spend more time at home,” Samsung said in its invitation to the event.

The world’s largest smartphone provider Samsung is hosting the event to launch its new smartphone in the first half of the year. To better cope with the difficult market conditions, the company has decided to launch its latest smartphone at the same time as its flagship Galaxy Note phablet.

Samsung has yet to confirm the specifications of its Galaxy S21 family, but industry sources say there will be two variants — the S1 Ultra and the high-end S2 Ultra. Both the higher end of the “S1Ultra” is supposed to support An S Pen stylus that is used on the Galaxy Note phablets.

Sources said Samsung could launch the Galaxy S21 devices on Jan. 29 and the S2 Ultra on February 1. Samsung’s latest Galaxy Note 8 and S7 edge-to-edge smartphones have revealed that the Galaxy S 21 series will have an improved camera design on the back and will feature a 5.5 inch display with an 18: 9 aspect ratio and an 8 megapixel camera.
