Taoyuan malls closed for disinfection following local infections

TAIPEI (The China Post) — The Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC, 中央流行疫情指揮中心) announced on Tuesday a detailed investigation into the two new local transmissions, including a report of the patients’ travel history. 

Case 838 is a doctor working in Taoyuan’s hospital who had traveled to multiple public locations in Taoyuan including the Metro Walk Shopping Center (大江國際購物中心), Starbucks on Guoji road and Zhen Yu Hardware’s Guoji store (振宇五金行) from Jan. 8 to 9.

Amid public safety concerns, IKEA’s Taoyuan branch, Metro Walk Shopping Center and Tai Mall (台茂購物中心) announced one-day closure for disinfection.  

In a post to Facebook on Tuesday, IKEA Taoyuan, located in Zhongli District said that it would close early at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday in response to the store sterilization, drawing much attention from the public.

Meanwhile, the Metro Walk shopping center in Zhongli District also announced on the official website to suspend business for disinfection one day.

Tai Mall also issued a notice to suspend business from 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, for the same reason of “implementing a comprehensive disinfection operation in line with the epidemic prevention measures of Taoyuan Department of Public Health.”
