MOFA thanks US congressmen for proposing Taiwan Defense Act

TAIPEI (The China Post) — Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA, 外交部) thanked the US Senate and House of Representatives on Thursday for the proposal of the Taiwan Defense Act (台灣防衛法案).

MOFA explained that the act showed the United States’ persistence in ensuring Taiwan’s security and stability.

The ministry also promised to pay close attention to the bill and maintain communication with the U.S. to strengthen ties between Taiwan and the United States.

MOFA spokesperson Joanne Ou (歐江安) had reported on Wednesday, Eastern Standard Time, that the United States Representative Mike Gallagher (加拉格) and Senators Josh Hawley (霍利), John Cornyn (與柯寧), Steve Daines (戴恩斯), Thom Tillis (提里斯), Tommy Tuberville (特本維爾), and others proposed the act that would give the United States the ability to prevent China from invading Taiwan and help fulfill the obligations stipulated in the Taiwan Relations Act (台灣關係法).
